Ice Baths at Home: Swedish Cold Ice Baths

A refrigerated ice tub works differently from the kind where you just dump ice in: A cooling system keeps the water cold at all times, and a pump circulates it through filters and a UV sterilizer. You set the temperature once and hop in whenever you want. The Swedish Cold Nordic Tub is one such freestanding ice tub: red cedar on the outside, 304 stainless steel on the inside with a bench seat, 198 × 78 × 118 cm. The 1 PS cooling system is located under the steps and keeps the water at 3 °C. Prefer to lie down? The Generation 4S (175 × 69 × 85 cm) cools and heats from 3 to 40 °C; the acrylic Cold Plunge cools down to 2 °C when plugged in; the Generation 5 holds 568 L. For the garden, patio, bathroom, or basement.

How to Find the Right Ice Bath for Your Home

  • Small footprint: The Nordic Tub takes up about 78 × 118 cm; you can sit in it and submerge yourself up to your neck.
  • Cold and warm: The 4S generation covers temperatures from 3 to 40 °C—cold after a workout, warm in the evening.
  • Easy setup: The Cold Plunge is plug-and-play and plugs into a 220-V outlet; the external cooling unit weighs approximately 35 kg.
  • Full immersion while lying down: The Generation 5 model, with a 568-liter capacity, cools down to 0 °C and can produce ice upon request.

Frequently Asked Questions

An ice tub or a horizontal ice bath—which is better?

The ice tub saves floor space; you sit upright, and the water comes up to your neck. In the tub, you lie stretched out, which requires about 1.7 meters of length. Choose based on the available space and how you prefer to get in.

How does the water in the ice bucket stay fresh?

The water constantly flows through filters: in the Nordic Tub, a three-stage system with UV; in the Generation 4S, a system with ozone, UV, and hair and particle filters. The cover keeps leaves and dust out. Replacement filters are included in the filter pack, which contains 6 filters.

Can the ice bath be left outside in the winter?

According to the manufacturer, the 4S generation is designed for year-round outdoor use, with continuous circulation down to an outside temperature of −10 °C. The Nordic Tub is intended for use in gardens and on patios. We’ll clarify in advance with you what applies to your model and your location.

Can my balcony or floor support the weight?

A filled ice bath weighs several hundred kilograms—the water in the Generation 5 model alone weighs 568 kg. If you plan to place it on a balcony, rooftop terrace, or upper floor, have the load-bearing capacity checked in advance. We’ll work with you to determine the installation area, access, and transport route before you place your order.

What kind of power connection do I need?

A standard 220- to 230-volt outlet is sufficient for the Cold Plunge and Generation 4S; the Generation 5 requires 12 A. We’ll provide the specifications for the Nordic Tub in the quote. You’ll also need a water connection for filling and a drain.

How are items delivered—and can I return them?

The ice baths are shipped via a freight forwarder; we handle delivery and setup in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, including on-site training. You’ll have a single point of contact for everything and a 30-day return policy.
